For those who don\u2019t geek out on planes (which is probably most of you), we\u2019ll let you know why the Cessna 208 is <em>so much better<\/em> than the 182.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>All About the Cessna 182<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" src=\"https:\/\/longislandskydiving.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/long-island-skydiving-plane.jpg\" alt=\"Cessna 182\" class=\"wp-image-1824\" srcset=\"https:\/\/longislandskydiving.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/long-island-skydiving-plane.jpg 600w, https:\/\/longislandskydiving.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/long-island-skydiving-plane-480x270.jpg 480w, https:\/\/longislandskydiving.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/long-island-skydiving-plane-320x180.jpg 320w, https:\/\/longislandskydiving.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/long-island-skydiving-plane-160x90.jpg 160w, https:\/\/longislandskydiving.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/long-island-skydiving-plane-500x282.jpg 500w, https:\/\/longislandskydiving.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/long-island-skydiving-plane-178x100.jpg 178w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Cessna 182 is the workhorse of skydiving planes. In fact, it\u2019s the most common jump plane in the entire skydiving industry. There are a bunch of good reasons why most dropzones in the country fly this particular plane.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Capacity<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A typical Cessna 182 can fit a maximum of four skydivers in addition to the pilot, which means that two tandem instructors and two tandem passengers can fit in the plane at one time.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Climb Time<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 182 can climb to exit altitude in about 20 minutes, which is a standard amount of time for the ride up to altitude at most skydiving dropzones.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Upfit<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Cessna 182 has a door that is easily modified into one conducive for skydiving.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Exit Strategy<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The landing gear is great for skydivers to step on to get <a href=\"https:\/\/longislandskydiving.com\/blog\/what-to-know-about-skydiving-exits-techniques\/\">outside of the plane and exit<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Cost Effective<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Probably the biggest reason why Cessna 182s are so common in our sport is because they are a powerful and capable high-performance aircraft compared to their price to operate, which makes them very cost effective.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>Meet the Cessna 208 Grand Caravan<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"480\" height=\"640\" src=\"https:\/\/longislandskydiving.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/LISC-GrandCaravan208B-2.jpg\" alt=\"Grand Caravan 208 Long Island\" class=\"wp-image-2823\" srcset=\"https:\/\/longislandskydiving.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/LISC-GrandCaravan208B-2.jpg 480w, https:\/\/longislandskydiving.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/LISC-GrandCaravan208B-2-320x427.jpg 320w, https:\/\/longislandskydiving.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/LISC-GrandCaravan208B-2-160x213.jpg 160w, https:\/\/longislandskydiving.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/LISC-GrandCaravan208B-2-75x100.jpg 75w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We did love our Cessna 182, but the <strong>Cessna 208 Grand Caravan is a huge upgrade.<\/strong> While the 182 is the most commonly used plane in skydiving, the Grand Caravan is the world\u2019s most popular skydiving plane that\u2019s widely loved by skydivers. Peep these differences &#8211;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Capacity<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Grand Caravans can typically carry between 15-21 skydivers, which is a whole lot of skydivers! Bring on the group jumps!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Climb Time<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 208 climbs to exit altitude in less than 10 minutes. A 10-minute plane ride is a <em>very fast<\/em> climb to altitude compared to the other planes in the skydiving industry.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Upfit<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A lot of Grand Caravans have benches inside to sit on, which is an underrated benefit. It is so much easier and more comfortable to move through the plane from a bench compared to a floor-level boot scoot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Exit Strategy<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This plane also has a high wing and big door which is a really nice setup for skydiving. It allows a lot of space for skydivers to position themselves in the door for seamless exit.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Cost Effective<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 208 is a turbine aircraft, making it easy to fly and operate at a relatively low cost.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Benefits of the Upgrade<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"480\" height=\"640\" src=\"https:\/\/longislandskydiving.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/LISC-GrandCaravan208B.jpg\" alt=\"Grand Caravan 208 Benefits\" class=\"wp-image-2825\" srcset=\"https:\/\/longislandskydiving.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/LISC-GrandCaravan208B.jpg 480w, https:\/\/longislandskydiving.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/LISC-GrandCaravan208B-320x427.jpg 320w, https:\/\/longislandskydiving.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/LISC-GrandCaravan208B-160x213.jpg 160w, https:\/\/longislandskydiving.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/LISC-GrandCaravan208B-75x100.jpg 75w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Switching to a Cessna 208 Grand Caravan from a Cessna 182 has a ton of awesome benefits for every person who has the opportunity to skydive out of our plane. If it had a theme song, it just might be Daft Punk\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/VMxGtEswxHE?t=144\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Grand Caravan is a much, much bigger plane than the 182. <a href=\"https:\/\/longislandskydiving.com\/blog\/what-is-it-like-flying-in-a-small-plane\/\">Compared to a commercial plane<\/a>, the 208 will look super small to the non-skydiver \u2026 but for a jump plane, it is large and in charge. Holding up to five times as many skydivers in one load, it packs in about five times the fun!
